Enter the Dragon - Movie Review

Enter the Dragon

Movie Review

Truth be told, I didn't finish this movie. I do this a lot, which you will learn as I write more of these. Maybe it would have been best to first review a movie I have seen 100% of. Anyway, onto the review.

Enter the Dragon - IMDb

Enter the Dragon is Bruce Lee's most famous movie. Based on the only other Bruce Lee movie I've seen, The Way of the Dragon, it is also his best. I didn't really understand the plot, it started out with Lee, Lee's character, in a tournament then being recruited for a spy like mission by his martial arts teacher, or maybe just some random old guy. Then a scene is cut to where a woman, who I inferred later to be Lee's sister, is being chased and eventually killed. There are then a couple scenes introducing a couple of American martial arts characters and they have a subplot which is never resolved, but maybe was in the parts I didn't see. Lee and the Americans all converge onto an island where we meet the antagonist, Han, whom Lee is supposed to kill or 'take out'. All the characters are on this island to have a martial arts tournament, and the sleazy American guys start betting and doing just some random shit that made no sense. Honestly, this story is kind of a mess, there are random subplots that are not clear, and it was never established why Lee was on the island except for the old guy telling him to. But why did the old guy want him there? What is Lee supposed to do to Han? During the nights at the tournament, the guests are to be entertained by Han's sex slaves, but also to make sure they don't go outside at night. The second night I presumed is when one of the Americans, I think his name is Williams, goes outside and happens to see Lee also outside doing some shady shit whereas Williams is just chilling out and looking at the stars. The next morning Han says that there was someone who was outside and how that wasn't good or whatever. It was a little after that point where I started skipping around in the movie because I just wanted to watch the final fight.

I'd like to point out that this movie was originally shot without sound and every single sound effect was added in post. I can't think of a single reason why to do that. Money? No, this is a Bruce mother fucking Lee movie, they can afford a couple goddamn boom mics. Surely the cost of a couple mics outweighs the money and man hours that were put in to re dub every single piece of dialogue and every sound effect. Every footstep, hand movement, shuffling of boxes, and wood creaking had to be recorded and added in post. I'm sorry but that is just so fucking dumb and pointless, and I tried looking it up. Trying to find out why they made the movie like that, but I couldn't find anything except for the fact that EVERY BRUCE LEE MOVIE WAS MADE THAT WAY. Jesus, I would not want to be on the sound editing team for any of those movies.

Overall, I think Enter the Dragon is the best Bruce Lee movie, but take that as you will since I have only seen one other. But even with that, it is slow and I found the sound issue distracting in some scenes.

Not recommended. I'll put up a rating because people like them, but disclaimer, different ratings mean different things to different people. 6/10
I was very interested in seeing this movie based off of this video, and was very disappointed.
